A great 40 - 31 win for SWF

It was a perfect day for rugby and SWF U15s played host to a powerful Chelmsford side. The opposition started well with their strong runners unzipping the SWF defence. Two quick tries resulted for Chelmsford but Woodham didn't lie down, making some huge tackles and some really strong runs themselves which made Chelmsford think twice about a walkover.

Eventually Woodham got a foothold in the match as they crossed the line for a try after 15 minutes. With their tails up and belief in themselves Woodham continued to pressure Chelmsford and were rewarded with two further tries before half time. Chelmsford also scored a third before the break to make the score 21 - 19 in Woodham's favour - the difference being a missed conversion by Chelmsford.

After the break Chelmsford came out with the bit between their teeth and certainly started the stronger scoring two unanswered tries (one converted) to move the score to 21 - 31. Woodham needed a reaction to avoid throwing away the good work of the first half which in previous times they couldn't deliver but the team are made of sterner stuff this season!

The Woodham boys delivered a 15 minute period of strong attacking running, supported by excellent rucking to secure repeat ball which starved Chelmsford of possession and Woodham scored 3 more tries (two converted) to move the score to 40 - 31. When Chelmsford did get the ball, Woodham's tackling was ferocious and the game ended with a well deserved first win of the season for SWF U15's.

SWF scorers were, Alexander, Dylan, George C, Joe, and Alfie. Half of these boys had never scored a try, and were over the moon. James Skelt put in a huge performance as fly half and converted 5 out of the 6 tries.

Man of the match went to Joe McClure after a long conversation between the coaches and the referee Mr Marc Jiggins (who also ran his socks off today, so a huge thanks to him)

Massive thanks to Chelmsford for coming over to us today and making the match a phenomenal one.

Onwards and upwards!
