The past few seasons had produced some good competitive matches and today would no different.

With nearly a full squad available for the home team, hopes were high that the good performances that SWF had been putting in so far this season would continue.

However, the home teams kick from the start went long and out of the dead ball area and Billericay choose a scrum for the restart on the halfway line. Nerves were soon calmed as SWF won the scrum and mounted their first attack. The early momentum was now with SWF and within four minutes, Jake got passed the ball from a maul 5m out and dotted the ball down. Will C converted, 7-0, a great start.

The next try came from Ryan five minutes later, after a sustained period of playing in the Billericay half and with Will C again converting, 14-0. The next period of play was pretty even between the teams but played mostly in Billericay’s half. A few substitutions were made for the home side and one of these, Hamza, scored on his debut with a great run on the wing. Will C converted. 21-0.

With the continuing pressure from SWF, it wasn’t long before Rowan scored and Will C converting for the 4th time. 28-0. Throughout this period, Billericay had battled against a very determined home team and they had the reward of a converted try before half-time. 28-7.

With the wind now in their faces, SWF started the second half full of confidence and it wasn’t long before Will C got the ball and got himself on the wing and ran 30m to dot down. 33-7. Billericay came back and scored with a converted try making it 33-14.

Within a minute SWF were back on the scoreboard through Zach popping up on the right-hand side and running past the defenders in this part of the pitch. Will B converted. 40-14. End to end stuff, a great match for all to watch and there was still more to come.

Back on the pitch and eager for the ball, Hamza scored his second try. 45-14. Billericay were not done and with a few minutes left they scored and converted, making the final score 45-21 to SWF.

This was another great game of rugby played by 40+ lads who were just there to play. It was played with great spirit from both sides and a great deal of physicality. Well done to both teams. Next week is home to Eton Manor for the next league match.
