A long day in Norfolk sees SWF win in impressive style but at a cost

In our first trip to Norfolk this season SWF took on Norwich a club who were promoted last season and are always tough opponents at home. The game got underway and both sides probed each other in midfield, but with SWF dominant in the scrum prop forward Dave Langley scored the first try for SWF and Jack Reeve converted to leave SWF ahead 7-0. This was jus the start needed as SWF we're playing against a stiff breeze and they would need to control the ball to negate the wind.
They did control matters to a large extent but in the 12 th minute Norwich scored a penalty from just outside the 22 to leave the score at 7-3. SWF upped there game from this point and it seemed there was only going to be one winner, but they could not find a killer punch until just on the stroke of half time Langley once again powered his way over the line. Reeve narrowly missed the kick and this was to be his last effort in this game, for as everyone was getting set for the break, from the next SWF attack Jack went down heavily and didnt move. The ref blew up straightaway and it was immediately evident that Jack had suffered a serious injury. He was taken off in an ambulance and it was later we discovered he had broken a bone in his leg. We of course wish him all the best on his recovery. Dale Borthwick came on and the reshuffle saw Price go to full back. We had just began to draw breathe when from the kick off Duggan got the ball on the wing and with Borthwick outside him dummies and went over in the corner, with Jordan Harper converting excellently from the touchline. 19-3 to SWF and a great reply from the team who must have had Jacks injury on their minds.
With the game now there for the taking SWF went asleep and Norwich woke up and for the next 20 minutes Norwich had their best period of the game. SWF couldn't seem to get the ball out of their own half, but their back line were tenacious in defence and held Norwich out until the 65th minute when Norwich scored their only try of the game under the posts Norwich 10 SWF 19. This score woke the SWF team up and they quickly replied in the 72nd minute when the forwards hammered away at the try line and with almost inevitability Langley again crossed the line for his hat trick. That could be serious money after the game in the bar for the big prop forward, but much deserved for the fast improving young player.

As the end beckoned the final score came from a Norwich scrum close to their own try line, SWF as they had throughout the game put pressure on and the Norwich number 8 lost control of the ball and quick as a flash Ryan Marshall stole the ball and scored to leave the final score Norwich 10 SWF 29

A great result and a very impressive full team performance with the only blot on the landscape the injury to young Jack Reeve, the team want to thank Ryan Gateson who accompanied Jack to the hospital in Norwich and Rhys Harman who met the bus at Broomfield and stayed with Jack there.

Squad Neil Gittos, Lewis Gilbert, David Langley, Paul Morgan, James Wilson, Liam Searles, Ryan Marshall, David Bull, Joseph Dukelow, Jordan Harper, Curtis Apthorp, Ross Rawinski, Warren Duggan, James Price, Jack Reeve, Dale Borthwick, Greg Tighe, Jack Norkett.

Next game for the 1s at home against Holt next Saturday November 2nd
