London north east division 3 SWF 16 Wanstead 6

It has been such a long time since we played a home game at Saltcoats that I arrived with the game 10 minutes old and missed Wanstead scoring two early penalties to lead 6-0.
The game was a seesaw affair with both sides creating opportunities but defences remained on top until near the half way mark. A penalty to SWF saw the captain decide on a a line out deep in the Wanstead 22, from this possession was secured and as the maul rumbled forward prop Langley peeled off and stretched to touchdown for a well deserved try, the conversion was narrowly missed to the right and so at halftime Wanstead lead 6-5.
SWF came out strong in the second half and earned a penalty in front of the posts which Harper converted to leave us narrowly ahead 8-6. The score stayed like this until late in the game, but Wanstead had two kickable penalties in identical positions but both missed and it was SWF who moved the scoreboard on as Harper converted another penalty to leave a bit of breathing space at 11-6. As the game reached its last 10 minutes a break from Duggan almost sealed the game but he was forced into touch just short of the line. From the resulting line out SWF pounded away at the Wanstead line and when the ball finally came out to the right wing there was prop Gittos who scored the try in the corner to seal the game.
A vital win and a good reply to last weeks defeat at Upminster means that the team is still well placed in its push for promotion.
