SWF come away regretting missed opportunities

On a gloomy day SWF threw away an opportunity to go top of the table when they dominated the game for long periods but could not take their numerous chances. It was Wanstead who opened the scoring in the 3rd minute with a nicely converted penaltyto lead 3-0.
There then followed 15 minutes of mayhem as SWF pushed the self destruct button on 2 occasions to gift Wanstead 2 easy tries.
First after a well won scrum, our scrum halfs box kick hit the flankers head and bounced straight into Wanstead hands and then 5 minutes later a clearance kick from fly half Reeve was charged down and again the bounce favoured Wanstead to leave them ahead by 17-0. Wanstead were ahead and yet nobody was really sure how it all went wrong. The rest of the first half was fairly dull with SWF not really getting into the game and Wanstead happy to sit on their lead. There was one break by winger Jenkins which led to a line out deep in the Wanstead 22 but after the catch and drive the ref judged it as held up and the chance went begging.
The second half began with a great break from centre Brown who was hauled down as the try line beckoned and again was judged to be held up and another chance went begging. This was to be the story of the half as chance after chance was spurned by a completely dominant SWF side. Marshall was adjudged to be held up although Wanstead and SWF supporters closest to the action thought the try was good. It looked as if we would never score and then in the 70th minute from another line out the catch and drive was perfectly executed to give the impressive James Wilson his 7th try of the season. However this was to be the only score of the second half and the match finished 17-5 to Wanstead. A frustrating day for all concerned, SWF need to get back to winning ways soon and the next game is Saturday 24th when East London, a big crowd would be greatly appreciated for this must win game.
