It was the 1st teams opening home game of the season and was eagerly anticipated as both teams had won their 1st games convincingly.The first 15 minutes saw both sides probing an testing each other but it was SWF who took the lead when from a 5 metre scrum Gilbert picked the ball up and dived over to score the try, SWF ahead 5-0. The SWF forwards got on top of their opponents but we spurned too many opportunities to increase our lead until after repeated foul play from the Wisbech forwards led to a penalty try for SWF duly converted by Reeve to leave us deservedly leading 12-0. This period also saw the referee send 3 players from Wisbech to the sin bin, however again opportunities went begging. Both sides exchaged penalties just before half time and SWF finished the half strongly twice being held up just short. The score at half time was SWF 15 - Wisbech 3. The second half began and it was Wisbech who came out strongly and began to exert pressure on SWF, it was however a passing error by SWF which saw the Wisbech winger race to the line from 70 metres out to score under the posts, score SWF 15 - Wisbech 10. SWF stepped up the gears and had the Wisbech line beckoning so it was no surprise when Gittos went over for a well deserved try, putting some daylight between the teams. Wisbech however were not finished and after sustained pressure they scored a well worked try in the corner. This left the score at 20-15 to SWF and a nervous last quarter to come. Both teams then went looking for the killer score but to no avail and the match finished 20-15 to SWF. The last quarter saw resolute defending from the SWF defence to uphold the teams fine start to the season.
