South Woodham sparkle in first round of senior vase
Both sides started in very positive fashion and the visitors took the lead with a penalty in the 5th minute, but SWF came back strongly and finally scored a try from winger Duggan in the corner after a period of pressure. This was followed on with a well worked forwards try scored by Sharp in the 19th minute. SWF now began to wear down the opposition and in the 25th minute captain Gittos was on hand to finish off some good work from Dukelow and Duggan on the wing to leave SWF ahead 15-3.
At this point the unfortunate Cheshunt player Omid Amani suffered a serious injury and had to be taken away with a broken leg by ambulance and the game had to resume on a different pitch. The club, supporters and players wish him a speedy and trouble free recovery.
In the last play before half time number 8 Bull crossed the line which was converted by Reeve to leave us ahead at half time 22-3. In the first 15 minutes of the second half SWF closed out any chance of Cheshunt comeback when first Bull again, Gittos and winger Price crossed for tries which were all converted by Reeve to leave the score 43 points to 3.
Cheshunt then showed real character and scored the games next 2 tries to leave the score 43 - 15. Our number 10 Reeve began to exert even more control on the game now and every time Cheshunt came forward he put the ball behind them and back into their 22, and from one of his touchkicks the resulting line out led to the try of the game came when the ball went through the backs to centre Brown who fed Dukelow whose angle of run carried him over the line for a great try, this was followed by the Reeves brothers combining for Jack to send Adam in for the last score of the match to leave the final result SWF 56-15. A great win and performance from this improving team
