What a tour

Bournemouth U11's tour

On the 1st of April South Woodham Ferrers U11's went off on their first tour to Bournemouth.

It started off with everyone meeting up at the campsite on the Friday and the festival started on the Saturday.

On getting to the festival venue (Poole Rugby Club) everyone was very excited and looked great in their new tour kit (the boys as Batman and the dads as Robin). we found out we would be up against 9 other teams over the next 2 days.

After some warm up and practice drills the boys were really ready for their first match.

The first game was against Blackheath Bulldogs and our boys came out all guns blazing they were on fire and played well in attack and defence and won 35-0  a game that looked great with all the elements on show.

The second game was against Blackheath Barbarians this was a tougher game with both teams having great defences and it was a hard scrummaging game the attacking teams made very little headway  and Blackheath just managed to take it 10-5.

The third game was against Gosport & Fareham Eagles this game had more tries but was also a hard game with several boys taking knocks, but after treatment they got back on and worked even harder, and at the end of the game Gosport took it 20-15.

The fourth game we took on Old Whitgftians this game really pushed us but the boys did so well to match the opposition and at times better them and even though our defence was working the other side still managed to take the game 10-5

The last game of the day was hard we took on Blackheath Buccaneers the boys looked tired before the game but once the game started they came alive the defence was fantastic the passing game started to work and in attack we were great and deserved the eventual win and we took it 20-0.

On the way back to the campsite the boys were tired but seemed really proud of their effort and the way they played and most had had a knock or 2.

Sunday saw SWF have 4 more games to play after a warm up and some drills the games started.

Game 6 we took on Cwmgors Cherries these were the eventual winner of the competition and the best team there by far the boys tried really hard and it was by no means a walk over as the score would suggest we lost 35-0 but our boys held there heads high as the teams clapped each other off.

Game 7 was against Braintree and this was a game where neither team gave an inch it was a tight game with lots of rucks and mauls, and more scrums then open play but in the last minute Woodham broke through and scored a try with just a few second we kicked of and a Braintree player caught the ball ran it back and managed to get through our defence to score a try with the last play of the game and it finished a disappointing 5-5.

Game 8 was against High Wycombe and in other close and physical game the boys did so well with nothing between the teams it was end to end stuff and each gave all they could and Wycombe just nicked it 15-10.

The last game was against Blackheath Bandits they were the eventual finalists, our boys put all they could into it but injuries and tiredness took its toll and Blackheath took the game 35-0.

As an overall festival we did really well we finished a creditable 5th and had the 4th highest try count, having played  a hard 9 games the boys did an incredible job as did the coaches.

On the Sunday evening we went to get our trophies and the boys got to meet and shake hands with Jason Leonard as he handed then their trophy he loved the tour kit and commented on it to a lot of them.

Out of the 9 games we played we lost 5 but 3 were just by 1 try a great effort.

For the first tour it was amazing with every boy enjoying their game and their time off and the dads and coaches were all incredible proud of them all.
Lots of the coaches from other teams mentioned that they thought our boys played really well, and we have been invited back again next year.

A special mention to Daniel Argent  for all his hard work in organising the tour and also to Conway for sponsoring the team and to (RED) Rugby Every Day for producing a fantastic strip for the tour
