An improved Woodham

This week the boys travelled away to Westcliff, for what was expected to be a tough fixture, and it didn't disappoint.

With the bare 9 players this week, Westcliff loaned Woodham a player to allow for substitutions to take place. The first of 2 matches was fairly even to start with but Westcliff soon had the upper hand. Woodham lacked drive moving forwards, and when it came there was little to no support for the breakaway player. A similar situation ensued at the breakdown with Woodham late to the party. Woodham try's from Ben and Westcliff's loan player Harry with the final score 4-2 to Westcliff.

The second match seemed to start in a similar vain. Woodham letting Westcliff have the dominance all over the field, and the boys heads had dropped. Jinks put in a nice run down the wing to receive from Rhino only for it to be a forward pass for what would have been a definite try. Woodham were trailing by a long shot at half time and the youth coaching coordinator had a word with the boys. This seemed to spring the team into life and the second half was a complete different affair. The boys were supporting each other on the breaks, hitting every tackle and driving Westcliff back or holding them inside their 22, at one point for around 4 minutes, until they got their reward. Try's from Bullet (x2) and Rhino to leave the score 6-3 to Westcliff.
