First taste of the autumn weather

This week the boys travelled away to Ongar and the weather finally decided autumn was on the way. With just 6 players this week due to sickness and unavailability the outlook seemed bleak.

Ongar had around 14 boys, and an U12's of around 6 - 8 players with no fixture. So the Ongar U12's agreed to join Woodham to make up the numbers and we agreed on 10 a side with rolling subs to keep everyone warm and involved in the game. We would play 15 minute quarters which would be a challenge for all who were used to the usual 10 minutes per half.

Both teams started well, but as was expected ball control proved to be elusive for both teams due to the rain. Ongar were more dominant in at the breakdown and soon were over the line for what would be a regular sight during the mornings play. Both teams dug in well and a great morning of Rugby was had. Woodham had some good play in the driving maul, pushing Ongar back on numerous occasions, with determination in the last quarter Woodham finally pushed over the line for a try after being stopped by Ongars defence 4 times. Man of the match was Archie.

Overall a good mornings rugby with a reminder that colder wetter times are ahead. They boys from Ongar U12's worked well with the Woodham U11's, and we look forward to hosting Ongar later in the season. Next week were away at Woodford who are also hosting Romford.
