South Woodham defeat Chelmsford twice in hard fought contests, but come away victors, 19-14 and 14-5

Game 1: WON 19 -14 We started this game with a new player Adam Howson as second row with George Duce, two large formidable players, although this was his first rugby game Adam played well against a very well drilled Chelmsford team. He won a number of line out balls and did well in the rucks a mauls this along with the other forward of George Phelps-Knights, Jack Boland and Aaron Taylor who is another rookie this season going from strength to strength, or back suddenly work up and found that attacking from defence wins us ball and games. Which showed when the ball came out to Alieu Badgie and his speed got him round the edge to score Woodham first try of the day, George Murtha our fly half slotted the conversation over. Chelmsford kicked off and Woodham attacked again, with the ball toing and froing we ended the half 7-0 up. Chelmsford kicked off and the tackling buy the Woodham backs of Xander Styles and his terrier partner Nathan Whittle just kept stopping Chelmsford from getting any good attacks together, our passing was getting out to our wingers Martin Bowers and Finley Jessup who had come on at half time for Matthew Podd all three of them had good runs and made some excellent tackles. The pressure eventually paid off with scrum half Olly Webb darting over for our second try, George M converted this as well 14-0. Chelmsford would not give up and after a sustained attack they score which was converted. Woodham got back and attacked again, George D and George PK having some good forward runs with Martin and Xander and Alieu stretching the Chelmsford defence only to allow George Murtha a jinking run to score. George missed this conversion 19-7. Chelmsford kept coming at the Woodham defence and as much as Woodham held them out they scored a deserved try, at the end of the game which was converted. The final score 19-14

The Man of the Match was Nathan Whittle

Game Two: WON 14-5
We had a short break and started with a spring in our step but Chelmsford determination not to go away with out a win was showing and the first half was end to end rugby, the stand outs were Nathan Whittle, Xander Styles and Alieu Badie who kept running and tackling, along with Olly Webb and George Murtha who were making the Chelmsford half backs struggle to get any ball out. So at the half it was a tie at 0-0. Matthew Podd came on for Adam at second row and did really well, chasing down the Chelmsford forwards and Olly getting the ball out quicker Alieu eventually got past his maker and dashed in for our first try which George M converted, 7-0. Chelmsford kept the pressure up and eventually they broke though by some good forward running and scored they missed the conversion 7-5. This set up a frantic last three minutes with everything to play for and with Chelmsford knocking at the Woodham five yard line the ball popped out to Alieu to pick up and he sprinted down the side line to score in the final play of the game which was converted by George M for a final score of 14-5
The Man of the Match was Alieu Bagie
