A three week layoff showed with the team displaying cobwebs in their play

Game 1: Lost 25 -10

After such a long break the cobwebs seemed to have set in and for th first half we allowed Maldon to run all over us. We conceded four tries at the half time whistle. After a good talking to and pep talk from the coaches the boys started in fine fashion. George Murtha, Xander Styles, Martin Bowers and Alieu Badgie had some good probing runs with the pack stepping up a gear and deciding now was a good time to start playing! Which resulted in Martin scoring our first try. The play went back and forth we had some very good tackling by Alieu and Olly Webb and Finley Jessup along with sustained pressure by the forwards of George P-k George Duce, Jack Boland , Aaron Taylor and Mathew Podd. All were getting stuck in and covering the park well. We allowed Maldon to pass the ball out to their winger who scored. Another good attack by us saw Alieu go over for our second try, so we had won the second half, pity we had taken so long to get started.

Game Two: LOST 20-5
We had a short break and started with a spring in our step but Maldon’s larger side and quickness of play beat us this time. At the start a long kick was chased down by our team but an accidental knock in the back of Alieu stopped him from downing the ball and this allowed Maldon a quick strike. We then got back into gear and started to run at them with our forwards with good runs by Aaron, and George P-K with George D and Matthew tackling well. But a infringement by our pack for coming from the side gave Maldon a penalty in out half and this was quickly taken whilst we were standing around the run past us and scored. This brought us to the half. We kept our spirit up and kept running at them but we had Martin missing for this game and his tackling was missed. We allowed another run by them to spread us out and get by us. We however kept running at them George D and Aaron had some good drives with P-K in support and this allowed Alieu to get his second try of the day. Another lapse in concentration allowed Maldon another penalty and their big fly half proved too much and drove over for the final score.
We kept going and the game went from end to end with both teams sparing at each other and the final whistle was welcomed by all.

The Forwards Man of the Match was Aaron Taylor. The Backs Man of the Match was a tie between Alieu Bagie and George Murtha.

Next Sunday is a training weekend. Start at 10 am if any year 6’s fancy a go. Come and see us.

Team this week was; Xander Styles, George Phelps-Knights, George Murtha, George Duce, Olly Webb, Matthew Podd, Jack Boland, Martin Bowers, Aaron Taylor, Finley Jessup, Josh Maxfield and Alieu Badgie.
