away at Braintree on a cold and wet February morning

This week Woodham were away at Braintree for a Tri team match with Eaton Manor. The pitches were very muddy and wet with large puddles in parts, so this was going to be a tough set of games.

Woodham seemed to lack enthusiasm and energy during warm up and this was taken through to the match. Braintree had 2 teams to the 9 boys from Woodham, and Eaton Manor were delayed in getting to the ground, so Woodham kicked off for the first match.

Woodham seemed to be a different team to the one last week away at Burnham, slow out of the blocks, and struggling to get into the Braintree half. The weather taking its toll, making hands cold and wet, meaning plenty of missed passes and dropped balls. To Braintree's credit they punished every Woodham mistake and had a healthy lead at the half time whistle, 5 - 0.

The second half saw more of the same. Woodham continued to struggle to keep Braintree out of their half, but some good defensive play saw some excellent tackles from Archie, Ben and Ross. Woodham continued to give Braintree too much space, allowing them round the sides or through the middle, which Braintree took every opportunity with open arms.

A tough game for Woodham against a strong Braintree side, showing why they won the Thurrock Festival earlier in the season. Final score was 10 - 0 to Braintree. Woodham too cold to carry on elected not to play against Eaton Manor.

Next week is training. Watch the website for details of whether this will be at Saltcoats or not.
