Disappointment at Southend

This week the boys travelled away to Southend, for the second match of the season, and the sun showed an appearance for those that came along to watch.

Southend were not as strong in numbers as they have been in previous years, only able to field six players to the fourteen from Woodham. We played ten a side for the first match, lending Southend Ashley, Ben, Jake and Morgan. The teams were fairly evenly matched but none of the Woodham players seemed prepared to engage in the tackle this week.

Harvey missed out on a try due to the try line not being marked and running out over the dead ball line. The final score at the end of 20 minutes, 3 – 1 to Southend with the Woodham try coming from Samuel.

After a short break we played two games of bull dog, first the players against the coaches, then the coaches against the Players, with the latter ending in injury for Andre, and a badly swollen knee.

The second game we dropped back to the new rules of 9 a side, lending Southend Ashley, Joshua N and Jacques. At half time the score was level at 3 – 3 with tries from Harvey (2) and Samuel. After lots of one or two handed shirt pulling tackles in the second half, the final score was 9 - 6 to Southend, with second half tries coming from Archie (2) and Aaron. Man of the match this was went to Archie, for dominance in the centre, not giving up and excellent tackles.

Squad today was Aaron, Archie, Ashley, Ben, Harvey, Ioan, Jacques, Jake, Joshua N, Morgan, Oliver, Ross, Samuel and Toby.
