SWF RFC U10's at Old Cooperians

9 of the Woodham squad turned up for an away game against Old Cooperians in Upminster. They had their 29 players available, so we played three different Old Coop’s teams one after the other.

The Woodham squad was Alfie, Brad, Ellis, Hayden, Keith, Luca, Luke, Mikey, and Noah.

Part of our warm up was to focus on moving the ball away from the contact area to space outside. We still tend to have games clogged up with many players running into many other players, leaving space in the outside channels.

Having not played or trained for a few weeks, we certainly showed it in our fitrst game. Old Coop’s were quicker over the rucks, hitting mauls harder, and playing the ball out smartly to our outside channels for some easy run ins. We were playing touch rugby and they were playing full contact by the look of it.

The next two games were very different. With the cobwebs blown off Woodham started to get into their stride. The tackles game, the rucking improved. Recycling from mauls was crisper. We looked like a different team/. Tries came easier. We would have scored more if we had played our warm up session more. Out to the channels…………it’ll come with more practise.

Great effort by all, but a few mentions. Great to see Keith win a ruck, make space then pass the ball out to Luca for a try. Luke went through a number of players on a few occasions to get us go forward. Hayden again tieless in working hard to stop the opposition making a yard. Alfie made some good decisions and runs to show the opposition what he is about.
