Rucking Great

Southend the weekend before Christmas. Always a tricky one.

Our squad was Alfie, Brad, Ellis, Hayden, Henry, Keith, Luca, Luke and Noah.

3 quarters of 15 minutes on a great pitch that took a stud and was made for our running rugby.

We came out the blocks well and the Southend players were a little stunned when they worked very hard to get a score from the start, then we scored straight away from our first play – Luca dancing through from his own half.

Southend showed their expansive play with good hands and in the tight they were aggressive. Our smaller team faced up well to this, but took a few hits along the way. We stayed in the battle and were complimented on our rucking. This was led as ever by Brad, and although he took the knocks, Hayden showed fantastic tenacity getting himself into places that others needed to be too.

Some other stand out moments were Henry’s first try. Excellent running and determination not to be stopped. Noah made some big hits – putting the wind out of a few players.
