against Stanford

This weekend the boys travelled away to Stanford for a match that was arranged instead of training at home. The boys joined Stanford for a joint warm up and training session before a couple of matches.

The first match kicked off at 11:00, with H, Jakey, Ox, Bullet, Archie, Ben, Ogi and Jinks taking the first half. It was obvious from the off that it was going to be a good game with both side defending well.

Jakey and Archie paired up to good effect with Archie taking the tackles and Rucking over with Jakey acting as scrum half. Jakey was also getting involved with the ruck and maul, getting inside and making a general nuisance of himself to good effect.

Woodhams passing was good and the tackling also of a high standard. The score at half time was 2-3 to Woodham. Scorers in the first half were Archie, Ben and Morgan.

A couple of changes for the second half saw Ashley, Mini Monster, Johsua and Dan replace Ogi, Ben, Bullet and H. Again the tackling was consistent, and the players were supporting each other, but improving on the first half the boys were not bunching as much.

Jakey again getting fully engaged at the breakdown, and making trouble for the Stanford team. Jakey had a great little side step to break free up the middle which lead to a try, and Jakey show boating the touchdown in celebration. This was swiftly followed by a similar display from Archie to score his second of the match.

But Woodham weren't having it all their own way and Stanford scored 2 more in return to bring the score to 4-5. Ashley took an great pickup from the ruck and broke free of the Stanford line only to touch down on the line just before the actual try line. He made up for his misjudgement but hitting a good tackle to stop the Stanford counter attack.

Woodham had to swap mini monster with Ogi after a heavy tackle left him winded. Stanford were not able to score back any more but Archie scored his 3rd of the day to round off the first half 4 - 6 to Woodham and a good win for the boys.

After a short break the boys were down to 8 men, through injury and sibling match requirements. Ashley, H, Ox, Bullet, Joshua, Archie, Dan and Ben took to the field and continued the good work from the first match. However the Stanford boys were too strong for Woodham and they ended the half on the back foot.

After regrouping at half time the boys gave their all, and the half saw tries from Bullet, Ox (x2) and H. However the boys were not able to bring the score back and the game ended 6-4 to Stanford.

The boys gave all gave 100% this week and we couldn't have asked for more. They gave Stanford a great couple of games of Rugby and should hang their heads high with what they achieved. A couple of things to work on for next weeks visit to Thurrock, but if the boys play like they did today it will be another great morning of Rugby.
