and their first match since 8th December

This week we finally got a match. Although we were supposed to be at home to Southend and Wanstead for a Tri-Match, our pitches were still too wet to play on. Thankfully Southend agreed to host both teams, and the weather was more like mid-summer than the beginning of spring.

First up were Wanstead against Southend. Woodham took the opportunity to use the time to warm up and undertake some training drills. Woodham's first appoints would be Southend.

The Southend boys were much bigger than Woodham but this didn't deter the boys. The match was fairly evenly set with both teams having a good share of the ball. However both sides seemed to be struggling at the breakdown with far too many players wanting to get involved and no one actually committing to the Ruck.

However both team fought hard in defence and eventually both side got on the score card. The second half saw much of the same with both teams determined to win out. However Woodham had to settle for the draw at the final whistle, 2 points each. Tries from H and Rhino.

After a break to take on water Woodham took to the field against a Wanstead team, again with some larger players. Both teams worked the ball well and Woodham were starting to commit to the ruck more. However both side still had too many players wanting to get involved, this meant that players were not in space to take advantage of the gaps left by the opposition.

A hard fought game were Woodham pushed hard and gave it their all. Tries came from Sam and Ox, with the latter being the last play of the match. Ox landed badly and sustained a shoulder injury, but managed to score the try to leave the final score at 2 - 3 to Wanstead.

An excellent effort by all the team considering the lack of games due to the weather, the boys can hold their heads up and be proud. Back to training next weekend, and hopefully outside if this great weather continues.
