This week Woodham hosted Bishops Stortford at Saltcoats. The sun shone and the wind blew on eve of what is forecast to be one worst storms since 1987. This didn't seem to phase either side with Woodham fielding 10 players and a similar number from Bishops Stortford.
An agreement of 2 games of 10 minutes per half saw Woodham looking to improve around the breakdown on previous weeks, and looking for the offload in the tackle.
Woodham started how they meant to go on, with a strong attack and solid defence. Woodham took control in the Maul, ripping the ball from the Stortford side on many an occasion. The boys all seemed to take on-board what Paul had requested from the off, specifically the quick pass out of the tackle and support in the ruck and maul.
Josh R got stuck in and rucked out the opposition on several occasions, with Oliver and Ross driving forwards to score tries. Score at the end of the first match was 11-0 to Woodham.
The second game was a similar story. Woodham again dominated in the breakdown although Stortford held Woodham back several time with a good push from the defence. Woodham also managed to pass the ball out from the breakdown to players in space.
When on the back foot Woodham were quick to push Stortford back and to force the mistakes. Dan, Woodhams newest player, also managed a half pitch dash before being caught by Stortfords defence. Final score was 11-1 to Woodham.
A better looking side this week with the boys moving the ball and being strong in the breakdown. Next week we are away at Ongar, for a 10am start. Please set your availability on the website.
