win out against Woodham

Woodham travelled the short distance to Rochford Hundred this week for the first game, and away game, of the season. With the new rules of play at U10's, a chance to put into practise the work the boys have put in over the last 5 weeks around the Ruck, Maul and Scrum.

With almost a full team this week, missing just Josh R, the boys were going to have a battle against a strong Rochford side. Rochford having sufficient players for 2 teams the scene was set for a sunny autumnal mornings rugby.

With 2 games agreed it would be 10 minutes a half, slightly more than the boys were used to last year. Rochford's first team of the day took to the field and battle ensured. The boys all got stuck in with good presence on the ruck and maul, but both side exhibited the Honey pot mentality around the breakdown, meaning too many players were involved. The score at the end of 20 minutes was a win for Rochford 1, 7 points to 2.

After a short break Woodham squared up to take on Rochford 2. This was to be a closer affair, but Woodham continued to stay too narrow and allowed Rochford the opportunity to go round the outside of them. Several passes were missed but good follow up chases from the likes of Harvey and Jake prevented Rochford from crashing over the try line to score. At the final whistle it was 4 -2 to the home side.

Woodham can hold there heads high as they all played well and everyone was involved with the game. Ross suffered, out of one high tackle, but managed to get up and carry on. Tries this week from Jake, Archie and 2 from Morgan.

Some things to work on next week in training but a good start all round with a solid base for the coaching team to build on.
