Basildon at Home

Our first game for almost 2 years!

New Laws to play to, new players, new pitch, new game time……plenty for the Team to deal with.

Our Team were : Alfie, Andrew, Brad, Charlie, Ellis, Hayden, Keith, Luca, Mikey, Noah.

Basildon with 14 players and our 10, we evened it up with Basildon giving us 2 players each half. We played well with everyone getting involved. Basildon were a bit sharper and more aggressive at the breakdown, which gave them more ball than us throughout the game. This gave us plenty of tackling opportunities. Tackling was good, but occasionally their bigger players would burst through a tackle. Our scramble defence was also good. Mikey standing out with some trademark cover tackles. Ellis and Brad working hard in the tight.

In attack we ran hard, both into traffic and stepping out and away from tackles. Luca standing out with good running and seeing space to score a number of tries. We tended to be running individually and either not having support or not passing to support when the opportunity arose. Plenty of good play, and some work-ons for the future. Great to see Andrew have a cracking catch and run from a kick off on his first ever game.

A few subs had to be made due to knocks and bumps. First game, on a hard ground. Never easy! But very enjoyable to play and watch.
