The Wolves put in a solid performance

After frantic last minute arrangements we managed to secure a last minute match with the Chelmsford Chieftains after finding out we did not have a match against Brightlingsea due to an admin error on our part. Chelmsford lads turned up in force and eager to compete.
The game kicked off at 12.00 midday and was in deadlock for the first ten minutes with neither team gaining the upper hand. The South Woodham Ferrers pack dug deep and with good rucking and support play managed to score the first try of the game by way of a drive over by James Kelley in the corner.
The S W F lads seemed to get a new lease of life and from the restart Alex Reynolds gathered the ball and proceeded to blitz through the opposition defence scoring a try under the posts and this was converted by Campbell Pirret. Chelmsford won good ball and the backs handled well but the woodham defence held strong especially in the backs with some great tackling, in particular by Aaron. After a phase of woodham passing Aaron as inside centre drew in the defence and released the pass to Alex who scored his second try of the match with Campbell converting. Half time score SWF 19 Chelmsford 0.
The second half saw woodham in control from the restart and with some excellent forward play some great runs especially from George Taylor, but it was Alex that scored his third try to keep the scoreboard ticking over and Tom Smith that converted the try. This seemed to kick-start Chelmsford and the last 20 minutes of the match was very keenly contested by both sides which resulted in 2 trys a piece for both sides. The Final score SWF 36 Chelmsford 10.
Many thanks must go to Chelmsford for playing at such short notice and giving the lads a challenging game.
Finally a mention for our Two newest recruits , Jake out on the wing who consistently tackled and supported well and Anton who produced some powerful runs off first phase rucked ball and extra power to the scrum.
George has been sown up and hopefully should soon be on the mend after his split Knee at the end of the match and as Captain will be keeping the rest of the lads up to speed I’m sure.
The Squad is producing some good rugby now and team spirit is high but we musn’t get complacent.
