Soggy Training

Under 13s Sunday 4th October 2020
Well, October certainly made a noticeable start with the weather! Despite an incredibly soggy start to this Sunday, today’s training was brilliantly attended by 17 lads (and a set of super committed parents!). Fitness, tackle drills and passing before a game which consisted of the teams:
A: Jake (c), Louie, Dan, Byron, William, Jack C, Peter, James and Jack B
B: Archie (c), Stan, Josh, Charlie, Alfie, Felix, Kenny R and Tom

It is so heartening to see these players take on this new game and make it their own. The skill of going to ground after the second touch has been an effective addition to their game. The positives seen today far outweighed the what-could-be-betters. Over the last week, the coaches have seen fantastic improvement in encouragement, communication, going forward with the ball, cracking offloads, superb support after the first touch (from which so many tries were scored today) and we are beginning to see some real leadership skills coming from some of the lads now. The core values – enjoyment, respect, discipline, sportsmanship and teamwork are on show constantly during these training sessions and becoming second nature to many of our players.

An aspect to work on is for the lads to remember to retreat after the second touch is called so as not to be offside.

The coaches’ player of today was Jake, who was on fire today; taking the ball forward, gaining good ground and giving support after touch one was called. Well done, Jake!
