An occasionally blustery wind was the only negative for an otherwise perfect conditions for a game of rugby.
South woodham's under 13 team welcomed our friends from Westcliff and were hoping to make amends for our last game with them. Unfortunately this wasn't to be the case.
Due to some unforeseen personnel changes before kick off Woodham had boys playing some positions for the first time and, from the kick off, Westcliff were the better side. Aggressive and direct running followed by some intelligent build up play. Hayden Allen and Noah Watkins worked hard to try and foil the attacking threat but, as is happen a bit too often at the moment, some missed tackles lead to four tries early on and some of the boys a bit disheartened.
There were spells where the boys really went at westcliff, Notable mentions to Tom Wollard and the Man of the match George Tickner for disrupting and tackling tirelessly throughout.
Sadly, for Woodham, it would appear that Christmas and New Year come at a bad time, where the boys were making real headway, and we need to get them back to the form that ended 2019.
Other than a truly outstanding length of the pitch try from the beastly Daniel William, playing full back for the first time, the afternoon ended with a sound 12-1 result for Westcliff and plenty to work on at the training ground for our Under 13s.
We go again on the 26th in our home game against Billericay.
