SWF host Rochford RFC in U13 league game

On a sunny but chilly windy day, SWFRFC U13's hosted local club Rochford in their latest league match.

Rochford kicked off as the home team decided to play into the wind for the 1st half.

From the start, Rochford applied constant pressure and the opening quarter saw all the play in Woodham's half of the field with attack after attack being repelled by the home team. Our lack of being able to string together more than 2 passes at a time to try and launch an attack out of our half was a constant frustration of this period and one which eventually lead to a try for Rochford from a turnover from a fumbled ball.

This try was closely followed by another 2 from Rochford as the Woodham players heads started to go down. However, a few of the Woodham players started to wake up and showed how they could play, stringing phase after phase of play together which eventually saw Bradley cross the try line. This sparked a revival in the team but time ran out in the first half to claw back anymore tries. 15-5 to the visitors at half time

With the wind behind them, Woodham started the 2nd half strongly. Good play by many of the home team players saw Max get the ball and cross the line for the first try of the 2nd half.

Rochford came back and through creating a 3 v 2 situation they crossed the line. Not to be outdone, Woodham put numerous phases of play together which resulted in Liam bundling through a number of players to put the ball down. 20-15 to Rochford.

Rochford now put on multiple subs and while Woodham had woken up and were playing as we knew they could, the fresh legs made the difference and 2 more tries were scored in quick succession.

Final score was 30-15 to the visitors. Next week is away at Campion in the next round of the Cup competition. The boys know what needs to improve for their next match and are keen to show everyone what they can do next week when hopefully they should be firing on all cylinders again.
