SWFRFC U13’s travel to Basildon

After no matches for 5 weeks because of the bad weather and the Christmas break, SWF’s U13’s made the short trip to Basildon for the next round of the cup competition. The boys had enjoyed a run of 3 straight wins prior to the break but could they extend this?

After a good warmup session, the match began. Both sides came racing out of the blocks and a good period of attack and defence play from both teams ensured it was a cracker of a start to the New Year.

However, Woodham started to show that had started where they left off and were finding inroads into Basildon’s defence. Zachary opened the scoring for Woodham, quickly followed by Rowan and Zachary again and in the space of a 5 minute period; we were 3-0 up. The home team got the next try but Wilbo scored for Woodham with Rowan getting 2 more before Basildon scored again making it 6-2 to the visitors at half time.

With the wind behind them this half, Woodham kept on the pressure against an ever tiring Basildon team. The full width of the pitch was utilised and Basildon’s defensive line was breeched time and time again with good strong direct running and offloading to support players, out of tackles and from the floor, to keep the team continually going forward. Further tries came from Rowan (1), Zachary (1), Ryan (1), Wilbo (1), Max (2), and Oliver (2) before Basildon crossed the try line with the final play of the match. In the end it was 70-15 to Woodham.

It was a good all round performance from the team which this week was; Charlie, Adam, Harry, Oliver, Ben, Liam, Reece, Bradley, Alfie, Mason, Wilbo, Harrison, Rowan, Zachary, Ryan, Max.

Well done to all for the effort, teamwork, determination and all round skills, showed this week. Let’s see if we can keep it up next week as we play another local club, Chelmsford, at home in the league.
