in a close match at Saltcoats

This weekend Woodham hosted locals Maldon for a friendly at Saltcoats. Woodham were in good spirits on the back of their recent success and were looking forward to the match, even though Maldon are 2 divisions above them.

Woodham won the toss and elected to receive the kick off from Maldon. Both teams were up for the game and possession changed sides several times in short succession, but with both teams not making much ground. Eventually Maldon broke through the Woodham defence for the first score of the match.

Not letting their heads drop Woodham got straight back into the game. Both teams working hard at the breakdown but Maldon proving to be stronger, with great clear-outs at the ruck and protection of the ball. Maldon also started to dominate the Woodham scrum pushing them back and winning several balls from the Woodham put in. However determination saw Harrison for Woodham cross the line to level the scores. The play continued the same for the next ten minutes until a well worked move saw Ross cross the line for Woodham to take the lead into the half time break.

The second half saw much of the same from both teams, with both packs looking for dominance but Maldon taking the edge on Woodham. A scrum collapse saw Dan leave the field after sustaining bruising to his back, but hopefully he'll be back for more next week. Maldon managed to claw one back to bring the scores level, but determined Woodham managed to secure one more try, again through Harrison, to take the game 15 points to 10. A great game by both teams, hard fought and no one giving up on either side.

Some things to work on over the next week in training, before a short trip to Billericay the following weekend, and then our second cup match on the 18th to bring the year to a close for Christmas. Man of the match this week went to Ross, with Effort of the week to Jamie. Wally of the week for forgetting the MOM trophy went to Harrison.

This weeks team were: Ashley, Ben, Dan, Dylon, Harrison, Harvey, Jack, Jacques, Jamie, Jody, Josh, Lewis, Ross, Oliver, Owen, Samuel & Toby
