Woodham Host Wanstead

This week Woodham hosted Wanstead for their first league match and first home match of the new season. Wanstead arrived with 11 players so Woodham lent them 2 players for each half of the match. Wanstead won the toss and elected to receive from Woodham.

Woodham started well pushing Wanstead back deep into their own half. Wanstead pushed back with a good defence, but Woodham managed to steal the ball at the break down and took the early lead through Harrison. Woodham kicked off again and followed a similar game plan, pushing Wanstead back.

However Wanstead with ball in hand manged to break through the Woodham attack, but were cut short by the Woodham backs. Recycling the ball Woodham pushed forward and crossed the Wanstead line again, this time through Jody. The half continued in a similar vein, with Woodham taking 2 more try's from Harrison and Jody, before Wanstead responded by breaking through the Woodham line. Woodham managed to respond just before half time taking a comfortable lead 20 - 5 into the break.

Wanstead took the kick off for the second half, and both teams settled in for the long haul. Woodham took the next try again through Harrison, but Wanstead soon responded with a try of their own. The next 10 minutes saw both teams fighting for possession at the breakdown with, both ripping the ball from their opponents, but neither team being able to capitalise on the advantage. The Woodham Scrum which was dominant in the first half came under pressure in the second and Wanstead were starting to come back at the Woodham pack. However the final try of the match would come from the home side through H, and Woodham took two from two 35 -10.

. The boys are back at home training next weekend from 12:00 with fitness training at WdF on Thursday Evening.
