Great start to the Season with win against Thurrock

This week the boys travelled the short distance to Thurrock for their first game of the season and their first game under the new Age Grade Rugby Laws for 2016/17.

The team short on numbers at the beginning of the week, borrowed 4 players from the under 12's, but had additional players come fit for the match, having a number of subs available. The toss was won by Woodham who elected to start the first 25 minute half.

The Woodham boys drove Thurrock back into their own 22 and held them there with good tackles and a strong defence. Woodham won several scums with the Woodham pack looking strong and pushing Thurrock back for scrum half, Michael's, to feed the backs to attack. The first points eventually came for Woodham 0-5 after 5 minutes. Woodham continued the pressure and with the wind in their favor Woodham kept Thurrock in their own half for the next 20 minutes, taking a comfortable lead into the break 0-30.

The second half saw a rejuvenated Thurrock take to the field. They started the half and were soon chasing the ball into Woodham's territory. Thurrock's 9 taking the first points against Woodham. Several minutes later the Thurrock 9 broke loose again and Woodham were 2 tries down inside 5 minutes. This seemed to spur the Woodham boys on, and although the scrum was good in the second half the tiredness started to show and the Woodham pack was not so dominant. The final score was 10-50 to Woodham, with a fine start to the season for the boys.

Try scorers this week were H (x2), Jody, Josh (x2), Lewis (x2), Oliver, Ox and Bullet. MOM was Dan with Wally of week going to Jacques. Next week the boys are at Home against Wanstead, with kick off at 12:00.
