U15 SWF RFC entertain Basildon RFC

Sunday saw Basildon’s U15’s make the short journey to SWF for the next round of the Essex Cup Competition. From the kick off, it was clear that Basildon had improved their game from the last time we played them. They were moving the ball well, going forward and putting pressure on SWF and it was only thanks to a tremendous defensive effort from the lads that kept them from scoring in the open salvos of the match. However, SWF started to get into their rhythm and with the ball finally ending up with Joe, he raced forward to score. 5-0. Now with SWF starting to control the game, further scores came from Zac and Brad (x2) and conversions from Harrison (x2) to make the half time score 24-0 SWF.

The second half saw Joe score and Max convert to make it 31-0 to the home team. It looked like it was going to be whitewash but Basildon were having none of it. Having kept them from scoring in the previous two meetings, this time Basildon kept their heads up, got on with playing the game and scored five minutes into the second half. 31-5. Their new found self-belief soon saw them throwing everything at SWF but the lads stuck at it and through Joe, scored to make it 36-5.

Basildon scored next to make it 36-12 before Brad scored and Harrison converted, making it 43-12. Basildon scored two more tries and converted one adding another 12 points to their final tally. Further tries from Brad and Joe came before a great solo try from Tom saw him speed 70m to dot down. With a last play try from Zach, and two conversions from Mason and Ryan, the final score was 71-24 SWF. This was no means an easy game for SWF despite the score line. Basildon applied pressure, never gave up and had improved immensely since the last time we played them and full credit has to be given to them to making this a great contest on the day and we wish them well for the rest of the season.

The next two weeks will be training to work on areas of improvement before three matches in the run up to Christmas.
