South Woodham Ferrers RFC Under 17's Essex Cup
Winners 2010
On 9th May at Eton Manor SWFRUFC became
Essex U17 Champions beating Woodford 15-12 in a closely fought contest.
Both sides exchanged the lead early on, but once SWF edged in front
again, they never relinquished the advantage. The SWF team, on the day
never quite displayed the huge potential they have shown all season, but
their dogged determination, self belief and refusal to be beaten saw
them safely home. The team and all the coaching staff would like to
sincerely thank the massive support who turned up to cheer them and the
U16's on and also to the V.P's for providing the transport.
6 of this winning team have played together since Under
7's.

rom all the current U17 squad to
everyone at SWFRUFC. Thank you all very
very much for your support, financial
and otherwise during the past few
months. Your generosity enabled 22
players to tour the Biarritz area in a
splendid new kit and spread the SWFRUFC
name around. We recorded two very good
victories against two very strong sides,
beating RC BAL 26-3 under floodlight and
Atletiko San Sebastian 59-0 the next
day. We have made firm friends there and
would encourage any other age group to
follow in our tracks there. The tour
theme was "Life's a Beach" as the photo
shows.

Having managed to keep a clean sheet against Maldon on
20/1/08, the team have kept up an amazing defence having
conceded only 17 points against in the last four games
whilst scoring 137!!
On 27th January the team entertained Harlow at home and
ended up convincing winners
58-0. Curtis Allen, Jamie Cairns and Matt Harriott all
scored twice, with Frankie Howard, Matt Gibson, Sam
Randlesome and Declan Coffey also going over. Stuart
Whatling converted three times with the final conversion
been scored by Ryan McDonach.
A hard fought game away to Basildon saw the team come
away with a well deserved 17-10 victory and then on 17
February an 18 man squad travelled to Ipswich and game
away 22-0 winners with tries two tries from Matt Gibson
and one each from Jake Watson and Curtis Allen with
Stuart Whatling adding a conversion to finish the
scoring.
On 24 February the team continued its winning ways with
a 40-7 home win against Canvey Island. The tries came
from David Langley, Ryan McDonach, Matt Gibson, Stuart
Whatling and two from Ben Rowlands. Stuart Whatling had
an excellent day at the office kicking five of the six
conversion's.
With games against Basildon, Cambridge and Rochford in
March the squad should be well prepared for the tour to
Wales at the end of the month.
This weekend (27/1) the U15's entertained
Harlow at home. The team have their league and cup games
now behind them and the coaches have set them a challenge to
remain undefeated for the rest of the season. The team
responded with some of the best rugby of season with the
team scoring 10 try's in a 58 - 0 victory. The tries came
from Matt Harriott (2), Sam Randlesome, Frankie Howard,
Jamie Cairns (2), Matt Gibson, Curtis Allen (2) and Declan

have not conceded point against and sets them up nicely for
an away game at Basildon next week.
On 20th January the U15's hosted Maldon at home in
the last league game of the season. The teams
objective of the day was to score the maximum points
differential of 50 to leave them with an outside
chance of winning the league.
The team responded with a fantastic display running
home 73-0 winners with some of the best Rugby they
have played all season. 11 different payers went
over over in total with tries from, Matt Gibson,
Josh Leszucuk (2), Curtis Allen (2), James Ess, Sam
Randlesome, Vincent Morris, Stuart Whatling, Ben
Rowlands, Jamie Cairns, David Langley and Declan
Coffey. Stuart Whatling who was nominated man of
the match by the Maldon Coaches complemented the
scoring with four conversions.
The team have now to sit and wait to see how
Brentwood and Chelmsford perform in their remaining
games, however after today the team should at least
finish second!! Well done to both the team and the
coaches and a big thank you to the excellent support
from both parents and other club members.
Sunday (6/1/08), the U15 got the year off
to a winning start with an away league win at
Chelmsford. Tries by Curtis Allen and Matt
Gibson were matched by two conversions by Stuart
Whatling who also kicked a penalty to see South
Woodham take a 17 - 10 victory over the league
leaders. It was a hard fought game with Woodham
worthy winners.
A big thank you should also go out to the
parents and other club members who gave the team
tremendous support.
