Under 16's

South Woodham under16s moved a step closer to dream of winning three successive Essex Cups With an impressive victory over Brentwood who started the game as strong favourites.
Things start well for Woodham who due to some sloppy defending found themselves 2 trys and 10 nil down with only 10 minutes gone !  Brentwood with tails well a truly up could have gone further ahead  if it had not been for some heroic last ditch tackling. With 25 minutes gone Woodham at last got into the game Brentwood had a line out on their own line, the Woodham forwards drove and some how Woodham No8  Liam Power stole the ball and grounded it for a try 10-5 . Five minutes later Woodham were awarded a penalty up stepped Tom Solis to coolly slot home 10-8. With the half nearly up Woodhams purple patch continued,  The forwards turned the ball over in midfield  and a sweeping backs move was finished off under the posts by Billy king , Solis converted to take Woodham to 15-10  and an unlikely lead . Brentwood looked shell shocked by this time. 15 minutes into the second half Woodham went further ahead when fly half Harry Beck tackled and then stripped the ball from the Brentwood no 8, Josh Bunn came in off his wing released outside centre Sevie Hurrell who superbly drew two defenders before releasing King in for his second. 20-10.
The Woodham pack, well led as ever  by captain Alex Calvert  was well and truly on top by now and was able to beat back the ever more desperate Brentwood attacks, the back row of Brown Pratt and Power were exceptional And hooker Dye was giving his opposite number a torrid morning.  With 10 minutes to go Solis closed the game out with a further penalty 23-10
a great allround  performance, the semi final next for woodham

South Woodham Ferrers under 15 rugby team started their defence of the Essex Cup
with a repeat of last years final against Barking at Goresbrook.
Going into the final 5mins of the game and trailing 24-10, SWF
fought back firstly Alex Calvert powered his way over to score.
Then in injury time Harry Beck danced his way through the defence
to touch down. Tom Solis held his nerve and converted the extra
2 points and levelled the score. SWF go through to the next round on
the away team rule.
Well done boys!
